TW: talks on genocide, racism, privilege denial, Australians who don’t know history

Namely those who are quite upset by the PM losing her shoe and have now resorted to engaging in hateful rhetoric directed at the Australian Indigenous communities.

I’ve noticed a few trends going on in the racist, ignorant and possibly written-in-an-inebriated-state, rage posts. And it’s only fair to address these things.

1. There is this misunderstanding that the genocide and ill treatment of Indigenous Australians “happened” 200 years ago. Allow me to correct you (Aussie to Aussie of course, because some of you seem rather flustered when a non Aussie attempts to address your racist disposition)- The Genocide and ill treatment of Indigenous Australians STARTED roughly 200 years ago.

The effects of the genocide, the negligence and abuse by the government, the ongoing institutional oppression of them is still happening today. Whilst you were mourning over the PM’s lost shoe, the NTER was (and is) still running. Police brutality against Indigenous Australians is still happening. The rates of infant mortality, sexual abuse and assault are still disproportionately higher in comparison to the general population. If it comforts you in the slightest- the PM will get another pair of shoes. However, these issues will not experience such an instant fix.

2. Many of you seem quite upset by the fact that Indigenous Australians can access a free education. Now this surprises me because we do have government schools where education is free (and if there are certain payments to be made, government subsidies can still be applied for) which is available to all Australians. And even up to a tertiary level (though the HECS is far from perfect) there are still ways of lessening the financial burden- provided by private and public institutions which all Australians can access.

3. Since we’re talking about university, I’ve also observed a lot of anger due to the fact that apparently Indigenous Australians can get a “free ride” into university because they apparently “swim in” scholarships.

Again- if you actually took the time to research our nation’s Universities, you’d notice that despite there being 2-3 max Indigenous focus scholarships per uni, there are plenty more scholarships on top of that which any Australian and apply for if you meet a set of requirements (and fun fact, even the Indigenous focused scholarships have a set of requirements to meet as well). Also, another point to be made- Indigenous Australians are not exempt from HECS.

4. Many of you seem quite bitter about how Indigenous Australians apparently get free-to-access dole. And the fact that you cannot access such magic dole which you seem to blame Indigenous Australians for. In the time that it took for you to write your hate post, if you had done some research- you would have learnt that applications  for the dole are open to all. It doesn’t mean that you will get the dole (because you have to meet certain requirements to qualify for it) but the same way your application will go through a process of assessment- so will an Indigenous Australian’s ( and they must meet a set of requirements as well). And where there will be some application that will be accepted, there will be those which will be rejected- the same applies to Indigenous applicants as well.

I would go into further detail on the numerous ways the Indigenous community here has been abused by the government institutionally and individual wise, or the 5 acts of genocide this community has experienced- but the Prime Minister losing her shoe, or a flag being burnt (because those who wrapped themselves in the flag as they participated in the Cronulla Riots are not offensive at all.), or you not knowing that you can access a lot of these things which you accuse Indigenous Australians for- is clearly more important than all that.

Reblogging again because there is a hate post on how Indigenous Australians Are The Worst because they can get cheap milk in Western Australia.

Fun fact: EVERYONE IN WESTERN AUSTRALIA CAN GET CHEAP MILK

‘Straya Day mate.

I understand how you feel about that post made by i-like-physics, and all of your points were valid, but I've got to side with him on this one, growing up as a European-descended child in Australia, I always (and still do to this day) felt like I was expected to atone for what happened to the indigenous population, and it felt so unjust. I believe the point i-like-physics was making was that although 'We' committed crimes against ATSI people, it wasn't 'us', so to speak, and because the >

When it comes to discussions concerning Indigenous Australians, the first thing you have to remember as some one who isn’t Indigenous is that it isn’t about you.

Seriously, you don’t understand the feelings of anyone who is aware of the current condition that the majority Indigenous Australians. If you did, and if you truly found validity in what was said by myself, you wouldn’t be siding with such apologist nonsense. The same nonsense that has been regurgitated in our National discourse on Indigenous Rights. The same discourse which has erased the voices of those it concerns aka the Indigenous Community.

Also, if you find it unjust htat you have to deal with an inkling of blame in  comparison to the years upon years of oppression and negligence the community has suffered from- then you really need to re-think your postion. You will not face the same institutional oppression that Indigenous Australian will face. You don’t have to deal with an entire nation celebrating on the day of the genocide of your people. That’s what is truly unjust here.

Also, keep in mind (if you did in fact read my post) there are still crimes being committed against this community by our system. The same system which the rest of us thrive on. It is still “us” and the fact that a douche like i-like-physics had the audacity to tell these people to “get over it” is exactly what holds our country back at any attempt at reconciliation.

Ignorant fool. I CARE about the native tradition. It is beautiful. To the people who killed them without reason, 'fuck you' I say, but I say fuck you to YOU for thinking I am against the aborigines. I am against ANY shit heads who dole bludge, and sadly a LARGE percentage of them, are abos. IT IS FUCKING FACT. I am done with your stubborn bullshit. Fuck up

A guy who suggests that the Indigenous Australian’s had a better fate than those who suffered under the Nazis does come across as pretty dismissive of the Indigenous community. Do you know what genocide means? Who needs the fucking Nazis when British Colonialists and the Australian Government did similar.

Are you even aware of how our dole system works? Do you even know of the number of things the government has denied this community

In simple speak- do you know anything?

Seriously, how they even let you into the community is a fucking mystery.

Australia Day & Controversy… (Aka peson who thinks Indigenous Australians should get over genocide)

TW: Talks on Genocide, apologism, racism, ableist language, white people who miss the plot, Australia

i-like-physics:

On the 26th of January, 1788,  Captain Arthur Phillip arrived in Botany Bay, i.e. Sydney aboard the HMS Supply with many ships following his path. This was known as The First Fleet. This was the official Colonisation of Australia.

On this day, Australia was ‘owned’ by the British Monarch, despite the fact that for 40,000 years, Aborigines had lived in Australia.

There is so much problematic, privilege denying, racist shit to filter through here. Good lord where do I begin.

First of all- When the First Fleet came, not only did members of that crew introduce a disease similar to small pox that wiped out 1200 members of the surrounding Indigenous communities at the time- they also deliberately infected the waters these communities used, getting the disease to spread. You do realise this is an act of genocide yes?

At first, the soldiers were peaceful, yet stern to the natives of Australia, as they posed no serious attacks upon the new white-man, but as time passed, more and more caucasians arrived from the UK, and sooner or later, things got messy. Aborigines were murdered by the thousands by the hands of the new beings for no good reason. It was genocide. It was a disgrace to morality, ethics and humility, and it is a time that all moral people regret happening.

Like I honest to God do not know how that can be interpreted into ” peaceful, but stern” behaviour (which also sounds condescending as fuck just in case you didn’t notice)

Also, from 1869 to 1969, many ‘half-cast’ Aboriginal children were forcefully taken from their families by the Government, in an attempt to ‘out-breed’ the Aborigine in their genes. This was also disgustingly wrong and immoral. It is also a day that moral Australians regret happening.

Sadly, for a second there- I thought you were going to write out something deep and thoughtful until

The problem today is that modern Aborigines still abuse caucasian Australians for the events that occurred in the past, and people are getting VERY sick of it.

There is not a SINGLE GENERATION of Aboriginal Australians who haven’t suffered from the impact of genocide. Not a single one. We still have that failed intervention going on in the Northern Territory which has only separated more communities, displaced children, and cause rates of substance abuse to increase higher than they already were. Infant mortality is still incredibly high due to Government negligence. Indigenous women are at a higher risk of rape and sexual assault ALSO DUE TO GOVERNMENT NEGLIGENCE. There is still not treaty. There has been very little in land rights. There is near zero representation of Indigenous members in our Political system AND IT HAS ONLY BEEN 40 YEARS SINCE EVERYONE VOTED, YES VOTED, ON ABORIGINALS BEING SEEN AS CITIZENS OF THEIR OWN LAND.

In simple speak, you have no place in deciding on whether these issues are “in the past”- considering that the things that harm these communities are still in action to this day. The people who are “sick of this “are people who were never paying attention or who already benefitted from the system.

Ever since Australia began to urbanise into large cities such as Sydney, Melbourne etc., the native culture of the Aborigine people has been declining VERY rapidly.

THIS IS DUE TO THE 200 YEARS OF GENOCIDE THEY ENDURED. THE GENOCIDE BROUGHT ON BY THOSE “PEACEFUL BUT STERN” FIRST FLEETERS. HOW DARE YOU SUGGEST THAT THIS IS THE FAULT OF THE INDIGENOUS PEOPLE. THE DECLINE AND DESECRATION OF THEIR CULTURES AND LANGUAGES IS DUE TO THE GOVERNMENT, COLONIALISM, CHRISTIAN MISSIONARIES AND PEOPLE WHO WERE’NT PAYING ATTENTION.

The Australian Government issues low-income Australians will ‘free’ support payments known as ‘The Dole’ as long as the receiving person searches for full-time employment. Unfortunately, many Australians abuse this privilege and sponge of the Government by applying for jobs with half-arse resumes and little effort just to ensure they get their payment. The sad part is that when the authorities find out that one is sponging, and ceases their payments, they complain and act like the Government is evil. They do not realise how lucky they are to get ANY support at all considering that 3rd world country citizens get NOTHING for assistance.

Also, massive call out on the irresponsible dialogue of the dole- do your fucking research because not only are you perpetuating negative stereotypes of Indigenous Australians, but also of those who live in low socio-economic areas. And honest to god, “Third World” seriously? Do some fucking research this shit is getting embarrassing.

Now, sadly, by percentage of ‘race’ (race does not exist, but I will use it for simplicity), the Aboriginal population are the highest receivers of ‘The Dole’, as well as filling Australia’s prisons (by percentage).

*In 2008 Aboriginal people represent only 2.3% of the total population, yet over 14% of Australia’s prison population are Aboriginal people.* - Online statistical source

Simple speak now, fuck off. I don’t know what it is about white people and their dismissal of race and how it plays an important role in the way society works and oppression- but this shit needs to stop. Also, you are presenting statistics without any explanation. Maybe you’re blind to it, but racially charged police brutality is a real thing in Australia. The system we have is more inclined to jailing those in under privileged situations than they are of helping them. But you wouldn’t know this because you were so caught up in perpetuation negative stereotypes of Indigenous Australians.

The majority of Aboriginal Australians today, are unemployed and many of them live in hatred of the ‘white man’ for what he did so many, many years ago. They abuse the system, drink heavily and are often some of the most repulsive people to be around.

Their hatred for the white man is legitimate, because  the people who have been harming them for all this time have been white men. These white ment hat you speak of with such sorrow are the same ones who thrive off their oppression. If you were paying attention, you’d also realise that the white man still maintains a system which oppresses the Indigenous community. IT IS ONGOING. THE SYSTEM ABUSED THEM. THE ALCOHOLISM IS A GIFT THAT BRITISH COLONISERS LEFT FOR THEM BECAUSE ABORIGINALS WE’RE PERCEIVED AS HUMAN ENOUGH TO EARN MONEY. THIS WAS GOING ON TILL THE 1950’S. SERIOUSLY, DID YOU EVEN GOOGLE THIS SHIT BEFORE TYPING UP THIS APOLOGIST PEICE OF CRAP?

I am not racist. I am simply stating true fact. I have nothing against anyone of any skin colour. I have Arabic, Japanese, Aboriginal and Kiwi friends as well as caucasian friends and I love them all, but this is a big problem in Australia. Now do not think that I am saying that ALL Aborigine people are ‘dole bludging slobs’, because I am not. I know a fair few hard-working Abo’s whom are also great, great people and role models

First off, the term Abo is incredibly racist, which says a lot about you.

After that little gem, in all honesty, I can see is racism. And If your only reason for befriending people of other ethnicities was so you could legitimise your racist bullshit, then I honest to god hope that they ditch your ass. Seriously, quit tokenising others so you can legitimise your bullshit.

Now that I have explained the history and situation, I will rant.

Also, you have not explained the history at all. You have only distorted it and presented us with a painful, inaccurate lie.

To ALL the people, be you white, black, 50/50, retarded, Kiwi, ANYTHING, if you protest against the Australian Prime Minister etc by throwing rocks, eggs, shit etc at their car just because of their job, or you acuse a caucasian of ‘stealing your/their land’, FUCK..YOU.

Did you even read into how the fuck the riot started today? Are you even aware of what our leaders did? Seriously, Julia Gillard and Tony Abbott are fine in their tax payer funded world of privilege denial.

I mean it, FUCK YOU.

Cry me a river

It was inevitable. Yes, the discovery of this huge fucking island was bound…to…happen. So if you insult someone who is a descendant of British ancestry for being born here, thus seemingly taking on ALL the shit events in the past, done by people in the past, then fuck you.

Well, this place was founded 40,000 fucking years ago, but your statement does say a lot about yourself if you think the inhabitance of Indigenous Australians means little. Then again, you have demonstrated this before. Also, read your history, read your current politics- the oppression isn’t in the past.

I am SICK of all the Aborigines, half-casts, whites etc saying we owe them more, and more and more over something done long ago. Fuck, if Australia was never found until say, 1944 by the Nazis, I bet my bottom fucking dollar that Hitler would have ordered the extermination of every non-white & non-christian person walking this island.

Hold up, a while back you said you weren’t racist, but now you’re being racist oh wow.  I mean seriously, you seem like a rather vile individual. If anything, the Australian public haven’t been giving enough to this community. I all honesty- barely anything has been done for the Indigenous community. Also, shame on you for the Nazi comment. How dare you suggest that Aboriginal Australians should be grateful that it wan’t the nazis. Do you not understand what genocide means? 200 years worth of genocide? Seriosuly, shame on you

It is 2012 for fucks sake. Shut the hell up about the shit that went on, and live life. Do not harbour hatred. I love my Abo mates, my Kiwi mates etc., but if you keep being pessimistic dick-bags about it, then you are wasting you time, and pissing people off.

1. Cut it with the abo talk- it’s racist and you’re point is pretty much dead right now.

2. I feel sorry for your friends, I wonder if they even consider you a friend from the way you speak of them.

3. It is 2012 and the NTER is still running, infant mortality and sexual assalut rates are still incredibly high AND NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE TO FIX IT. THIS SHIT I GOING ON. THE PROBLEM IS HAT YOU HAVE BEEN IGNORANT AS FUCK ABOUT ALL THIS. This community and their allies will continue talking until shits like you get the fucking point. IT IS NOT OVER. NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE. THE WAY AUSTRALIA HAS TREATED THEIR INDIGENOUS COMMUNITY IS AN INTERNATIONAL DISGRACE.

PEOPLE ARE ANGRY BECAUSE THIS SHIT IS HAPPENING.

Bottom line: Bad shit happened. Some of it had to happen, sadly, but what’s done is done and NOTHING can change that. Live in the present, pursue the future, learn from the past, but do not dwell upon it.

Bottom line: Bad shit will continue to happen because people like you are all talk bu never pay attention. Bad shit will happen because you will thrive off this oppression. Bad shit will happen because shits like you seem to think Genocide had to happen- and I pray that some where in your privileged little existence, you will learn how fucked up you were for thinking like this.

If anything, it is you who have learnt nothing from the past.  Your denial has blinded you of the crimes the government is committing now. The nerve of you, a person who has never experienced anything close to this oppression or racism, to tell a group of people who are suffering to this day  is a crime in itself, and it’s fucking appalling knowing that I live in a country full of people who think like this.

DONE.

Go fuck yourself

quick reminder to y’all incase you don’t know what he wrote

I worked in the NT for 6 fucking months, helping build a school for Abo kids to get a decent education. Sadly, the majority of their family were broke, alcoholics and completely incapable of looming after an innocent child. How fucking dare you call me racist. I am not. If I went back to Gurindji today, I would be welcomed by ALL the kids I helped, you bitch. I made friends with DOZENS of abo kids who I will never forget. They LIKED being called abo. They were proud to be. YOU are closed minded.

The word Abo is racist and you are in no position to use it because you aren’t oppressed by it. Stop it.

Another thing. If you have been to the NT, and you helped said Indigenous children- then you should be aware of how the NTER failed all of those communities. You should be aware that the alcoholism and abuse is all due to a negligent system which IMPOSED these abuses on to them.

Seriously- you could have camped at Arhem Land for all I care, and it still wouldn’t have made what you’ve said to be any less racist. You could have been welcomed by every single child in that community, who has been harmed by the government- and it still wouldn’t have made your writing any less ignorant and irresponsible for presenting such information without any explanation for why these things were occurring.

I honestly wonder how these people would feel know that you’re exploiting their experiences for your racist, apologist fodder.

Shame on you for not understanding my post. Literally, you sound ridiculously arrogant. You completely, completely do not understand my words. 'Abo' is not racist, you idiot, it is simply a 'form' of conjunction. Fuck YOU for not seeing it from a different POV. Small pox, yes, no shit it is terrible, but as I clearly fucking stated, it was bound to happen. You are one of the dipshits who think a lot of us Caucasians dont care. I fucking do. You dont know me. Cont....

TW: talks on genocide, ableism

I hate to break it to you but

1. The word Abo is rooted in oppressive, colonialist, white supremacist origin.

2. The POV you were writing in was one that suggested that a group of people who are still oppressed in our society should “move on” despite the fact that barely anything has been done to assist said “moving on”.

3. For you to even dismiss inter-generational trauma as a factor here is absolutely appalling.

4.”Small pox, yes, no shit it is terrible, but as I clearly fucking stated, it was bound to happen”

How the fuck does that explain anything? Seriously? It was bound to happen is that the best you can fucking do?

5. I feel that I am some what privileged for not knowing you. Your dismissal of crucial factors that harm the community as a whole and your excuses are appalling.

Many Aboriginals call Australia Day “Invasion Day”. That’s a simple fact of life, and if the Aboriginal people are less than enthused, they’ve had a lot to be unenthusiastic about for a couple of centuries.

Educated Australians are well aware of that fact, and sympathize. The Stolen Generation was not a myth, the massacres were not fables, and the ongoing misery isn’t exactly hard to spot.

The 26th of January commemorates the arrival of the First Fleet in Sydney. With it came disease that obliterated most of the local Aboriginals, guns, and a lot of actual misunderstandings.

Unfortunately, the misunderstandings are as lethal now as they were then. Prof. Dodson and other Aboriginal leaders have a point to make, and they’re making it. They want a national day that includes them, not reminds them of the horrors of the colonial and imperial days.
