omg one of the people on the course discussion board is complaining about the image of Emmette Till’s body as being “too graphic”
TW: racism, brutality
The whole point of it is so it can be graphic. To have impact. To show how racist and brutal and dismissive society is. That was a deliberate action of his mother to show her son’s broken body to the world, to let them witness this brutality.
Plus, the communications book DID put a trigger warning there as well.
Also- when you back a statement like that with “racism doesn’t exist anymore”, well you’ve completely missed the point then haven’t you?

I think if a mother has to see her son’s body like that, the least they can do is look at a picture of it in a book. its too often that is the kind of image that only gets through to people.
